MSMAS Judo welcomes Richard Raymond Sensei to lead Youth & Senior Sessions...

Richard Raymond Sensei visited MSMAS tonight to lead the Judo Session for our Seniors & Youth .....


Although now in his 70’s, Sensei Raymond appeared to have lost none of his Judo ability and is still considered by many to be one of the very best Judo Teachers in the UK today !!

Indeed, many years ago, it was to Sensei Raymond that the now Kyoshi Payne went to learn Judo Kata.

Now, nearly 30 years later, he was with him again, this time at the MSMAS Dojo !!

Sensei Raymond attended in company with Laurie Dalton, his long time Judo colleague and Uke plus John Baseley, another Student of Judo...

Richard Raymond, HachiDan (8th Dan) DNBK & RokuDan (6th Dan) BJC
Started Judo at the LJS in 1955 and practiced Judo in the British Army in 1956 where he also studied Jujitsu, weapons training and unarmed combat. He represented the Army in both the individual and team events. Fortunate and privileged to have studied under Kenshiro Abbe Senesi and Masutaro Otani Sensei. In 1962 started the Aylwin Judo Club where he has been the Chief Instructor and teaching Judo on a regular basis ever since. He has coached 65 people to Dan grade with 6 of those to 4th Dan and 3 to 5th Dan, plus organised kata courses and displays in UK, Europe and Japan. Alos, holds Dan grades in Bojitsu, Jojitsu, Jujitsu, Aikido and Karate.

Laurie Dalton, RokuDan (6th Dan) DNBK & GoDan (5th Dan) BJC
Started Judo 38 years ago and been a member of Aylwin Judo Club for the last 37 years. Won Gold and Silver medals at National Championships and competed at national level with a number of international competitions. Coach of the South London Area Squad which enjoyed a number of national and international successes. At one point the squad had 8 national champions. Also trained at the Tokei in London and with the Metropolitan Police.

John Baseley, YonDan (4th Dan) DNBK & NiDan (2nd Dan) BJC
A key Instructor at the Aylwin Judo Club for 20 years and has enjoyed success at national and international kata competitions. In addition a qualified national and international referee and coaches at the Aylwin Judo Club and at courses around the UK.

A great night was had by all  !!!

Indeed a Judo Seminar is now planned to take matters forward, so that we do not have to wait another 20+ years to be with him again !!

MSMAS Judo ~ Medal success @ 2013 BJA Sussex County Judo Trials

A small MSMAS Junior & Senior Judo Team of just 6 Players, 3 Senior & 3 Junior attended this years BJA Sussex County Judo Trials, yet with only 6 they came home with 6 Medals to enjoy yet another 100% medal success day resulting in 3 x Sussex County Judo Champions & 6 x Sussex County Judo Players ...
