MSMAS attend Mid Sussex Club and School Conference 2009.....

Working together for our sporting future!

The Mid Sussex Club and School Conference 2009 was held to:

 To maximise our School's potential ...
 To attract new young people to our School and provide an outlet for our sporting youngsters ...
 To develop more volunteers and leaders, to ensure your School's future ...
 To help make our School a central part of the community ...
 To network with other local providers and professionals ...

The Conference was held at St Paul’s Catholic College; the home of the Mid Sussex Sports Partnership and Specialist Sports College.

The Confernce offered:

Inspirational speakers informing us on what is changing in sport and what is available for us in the local area.

It all began at 6.30pm with a buffet supper and informal networking – there were also some stands from Sports Governing Bodies and local sports organisations.

At 7pm: Councillor Gary Wall - Cabinet Member for Leisure & Outdoor Services set the scene and gave an introduction to the Conference.

Then Karen Coomber/ Sally Harper – Sports Development Manager for the Sussex County Sport Partnership Trust gave the County picture.

Afterwhich Lorraine Everard Partnership Development Manager, Mid Sussex School Sport Partnership – Working with the SSP; on what we can do for each other including an example of school and club working together for mutual benefit.

Then it was Helen Bridgman – Sport & Healthy Lifestyles Officer MSDC – encouraging more participation in sport, the Olympics in Mid Sussex and how the local authority can help.

A 'Sporting Champion' then took to he podium to talk about their route from School to Stardom.

Then time for the 'Young Ambassadors for Mid Sussex' – Young people, on what inspires them to be involved in sport, their aspirations for the future including the Olympics.

Then a general forum on:

1. Funding and Facility Development MSDC
2. Volunteering, coaching and county sports partnership
3. Finding out how working with the School Sports Partnership team can help our School and the young people in it.

We then had a chance to visit 2 of the forums, each lasting 20minutes.

The Governing Bodies and others were also around for more informal discussions.

In all a good night wsa had by all.

My thanks to AJ and Cris Leahy for representing MSMAS.
